Can Paradox run of a linux server and if how?

Re:BDE and Linux

Rodney Wise has run Paradox on Linux, using the standard version. He reported
better luck with Paradox Runtime.
I believe his writeups/results are on the -linux group at
Or do you mean Paradox the Table Format only?

Re:BDE and Linux

Yes sorry I meant Paradox the table format. My client wants to keep the
files on a linux server.

Re:BDE and Linux

Set up a Samba partition on your Linux Server and put your Paradox Tables in
it. Also, (in the Samba partition) set up a shared directory for your
Paradox Netfile.
Run the BDE on each of the Windows based Clients.
Do some test... and go with it.

Re:BDE and Linux

Make sure oplocks is off on the Samba server (by default they're on, I
believe).

Re:BDE and Linux

NOTE:
When you setup your Samba partition.... If you are going to be accessing
Paradox tables, make sure to disable Opportunistic Locking and Write Behind
Cache in your Samba Config file. Samba documentation instructs on you how
to do this.
You might also consider sharing a common IDAPI.cfg file (placed in a shared
directory on your Samba Server). This way, all BDE clients will be using
the same BDE configuration.
