BP7 reboots PII 350Mhz under MS-DOS 6.2

Hello,
I have been running BP7 in a DOS full screen session under
OS/2 on a PII 350 and under MS-DOS 6.2 on a PII 166 for a
while now without any problems except for the well known
RTE200.
I recently tried to move the installation from then PII 166 to
a new PII 350 using MS-DOS 6.2 and found that on invoking
the compiler (BP.EXE) the computer rebooted instantly and
without any error messages.
Both the PII 166 & PII 350 MS-DOS computers use SCSI.

I have had a look through Pedt Scragg's Mini FAQ and not
found anything obvious except for perhaps:-

* My computer has more than 64Mb of memory and BP7 will not work

Unfortunately there is no more information, no link for this
question and 'will not work' could mean many things.

Has anyone come across a rebooting problem before?
If so I would appreciate any links/info.

I should add that the PC in question appears to work OK in
every other respect even to running programs compiled using
the same BP7 compiler on the PII 166.
The computer in question is at work, where I don't have access
to Usenet posting, and I can't remember any more details but I
can find out on Monday if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks in advance,

I have 128 mb of memory, and I encounter exactly the same problem when
terminating Windows 98 and telling it to quit to DOS mode. However, when
I run BP in a Windows DOS box or after having booted to plain DOS, there
are no problems. Did you try that?

This PC only runs DOS, but it may be the same problem.
I didn't check the amount of RAM but I think it has 64MByte, I'll
check on Monday.
Do you know whether this particular problem affects only PCs

Hi,

did you try the EMM386 switch NOVCPI?
Helped me with 64MBytes RAM.

No idea.

By the way, an anti-virus scanner running in 32 bit protected mode also caused my
computer to reboot - and again, this happens only after having told Windows to
restart in DOS mode (NOT when booting to plain DOS).

Yes I tried it yesterday and it now works.
I've never heard of VCPI, I haven't done any DOS programming
for over 10 years now until the last couple of months.

For the record the system in question is:-
PII 350 MHz,
64MByte RAM
Adaptec SCSI adapter
I Will motherboard with Award 4.51pg BIOS.

Re:BP7 reboots PII 350Mhz under MS-DOS 6.2

I've experienced the exactly same problems on various machines. They've all got
one thing in common: 128 MB RAM. Since I sell my software, I was forced to buy
an extra computer with that much memory to do some tests. The result is:
HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE seem to be faulty !!! They crash each and every
DPMI-based software, including Borland Pascal, programs written with it,
3D-Studio, DOS4/GW executables and more. Simply remove that stuff, and there you
go. However, you'll have onlz 64 MB available for your Borland Pascal programs.
