Use the BDE ASCII driver. See the on-line help or, for the best
documentation, see the file ASCIIDRV.TXT in the Delphi 1 Doc directory on
your Delphi CD.

  * Drop a TTable component on your form.
  In the Object Inspector:
  * Enter the database name (or path) where you want the text file
    created in TTable.DatabaseName field
  * Enter a name for the text file in the 'TableName' field (e.g.
'Orders')-- do **not** enter a file extension.
  * Enter 'ttASCII' in the 'TableType' field

Drop a TBatchMove component on your form. Set TBatchMove's source
table to the table you want to backup. Set TBatchMove's
destination table to the ttASCII table you just created. Set
TBatchMove's Mode field to 'batCopy'

Call BatchMove.Execute and a fixed-width text file
backup of the source table will be created. A schema file for this text
file will also be created. The Schema file will contain the field names,
widths and types.
