4 of these *will* sell, the 5th one could be yours!

:)
I think, you guys really need to stop doing this sort of stuff.
It has a potential to upset those who paid full price.
No, I wasn't one who paid full price, but I can see where
something like this could be very aggravating.
This is just a suggestion. Thank you.

Then so does every sale, every lottery and every free sample.
People who get upset because others get a good deal on something really need to
get a life.

We should stop doing promotional gimmicks to raise awareness of BorCon?

Naw--the problem is getting the various technical newsites on the web to
cover it. it is a great gimmick, just needs more publicity. Can you get David
I to cover it in a flash message to the Delphi base tonight or tomorrow
morning?

This particular sort of gimmick, yes, please stop it.
In my opinion it is much better to stay the course with price schedules.
It would be all right, for example, to reward contest winners with free
BorCon passes, or give discounts to those that register early (like you do).
But what good does creating chaos with BorCon registration prices do?
If you continue doing that, everybody will stop taking the official price
seriously and start running back and forth looking for special deals,
promotions, and Internet gimmicks.
There is just seems to be some kind of negative vibe associated with it.

What if you were purchasing the registration not for yourself, but for the whole department?
And then your boss confronts you, about how come you purchased the tickets for that much
when they had been available for less.
Obviously, in this case, it is your fault, since you didn't do good enough research.
But the gimmick is what got you in the situation in the first place.
I am speaking hypothetically.

Five passes auctioned off on E-bay is hardly "creating chaos". Not even close.
IMHO.

You are correct, off course. But it is a start.
That's why I am trying to suppress the notion
with my hefty criticism now, while it is still young.

Yeah, Borland would hate that. ;-)

The vote so far seems 1 against, 5 in favor. Plus the people doing the
bidding on eBay.

6 in favour. If it wasn't for the other costs also involved (e.g. hefty
airfare, selling concept to wife <g>), I'd have seriously
considered bidding for one of these.
But just because I cannot take advantage of this extremely generous
offer, I am hardly going to get all bent out of shape about it.

IMNSHO, this is no different than how airlines sell tickets. You can buy a
ticket for, say $150 from Priceline, and be sitting right next to someone
who paid $300 from Orbitz. Would you rather we offer these "special" deals
in private only to a select few of our closest friends? That would be a
little "clique-ish" and not in the inclusive spirit we're trying to portray.
Besides, there is no guarantee that you will get the tickets. Someone could
always out bid you. If you want to guarantee that you will get a pass to the
conference, then pay full price and not mess with the auction.

"Chaos" in this instance is actually good. It raises awareness. The more
we talk about the conference here, the more the word will get out and
possibly increase the number of attendees.
