SCNR ;-)
I hear good things about the new update - but, do we have to wait 2 months,
again?

I've called Borland Customer support around end of April, claiming the
delays in update 2. They kindly sent me the english version (for free!)
The same day as the package was delivered, Update2 german was released :-)
Nevertheless, I removed the german version and installed the english
version; and yesterday I upgraded to Upd3 :-)

German and Japanese should be available late this month or early next month.
I haven't heard a date for French yet.

Do you lack of French Translators ?

That's what I am wondering also. I am quite sure that if you were calling
for a few selected users to help here, you'd get too many answers to
deal with ;-)

Hi,
Not having a release date for the French translation is not good news.
Will it be release before update4 and/or D10/D2006 be released in English ?
Why is the french translation ever the last to be released ? Is there
any technical reason or is it because french is a difficult language ?
Cheers,
Florent

Perhaps because it is the least significant group of customers in terms
of raw numbers of sold units.

I guess this is not the same team that make translations for German,
Japanese and French. Making some changes to an existing translation
don't require months to be done.

Re:When D2005 Upd. 3 International?

To answer all the questions:
I didn't have a date for French at that time because we were only discussing
what would be signed off last week - German and Japanese.
French Delphi 2005 Update 3 should be signed off this week and live on the
Web site within a week or so after that.
We release Japanese and German first because we have more users purchasing
products in those languages. That is the only reason why French is done
last, not because of a lack of translators.

Thanks for the information. Update 3 seems to work with lower hardware
configurations, then I will be able to launch it.

And there will not be additionnal developpers in France in the near
future. There are about no school that provide practical courses with
Borland's products; everything is teached in Java/MS VC/VB.
- Java because it compiles/runs on Windows and Linux, it is to
understand object programming with it because there is no pointer.
- MS VC for applied mathematics (with Matlab) and interfaces with IO
peripherals.
- MS VB(Visual Basic) to program database applications.
Borland should be present in these 3 points !!! But it is not. Only few
schools are informed about Borland's solutions...

Michael Slinn in Product Marketing is looking at ways to expand the presence
of Delphi and all of our IDEs in the education market so hopefully we will
see some good progress there in the future.

Great! I wish Mike success!
I can confirm Florent's comments: I had night courses at Bordeaux'
University, ie, an OOP course. The teacher was using Java and didn't
know what Delphi is wrt OOP. I had to provide him with the D5
programmer's guide so that he acknoledges the "Delphi has it all".

Same for Germany. We had Turbo Pascal 5.0. At least something from
Borland. University had Java and C.

Re:When D2005 Upd. 3 International?

Hi,
even stranger here in my university in Spain. At the beginning we were
programming in Pascal for Mac (don't remember the name), next year we used
mostly C. I can remember to have programmed a shell for Minix (God, how i
hated that OS...), and only later on we used VS C++ and in some cases Ada.
One thing is true: in my university i have learned so many languages
(general or specific, some very weird) that i don't know if right now i'm
writing English or Pascal <g>
Actually i have used Pascal, C, C++, Object Pascal, Ada, Lisp, Prolog, SQL,
ABEL, HSVL, QNAP, ... and some i can not remember anymore! Perhaps I am wrong
and ended studying International Languages instead of Computer Sciences? <g>
