Python, Delphi and Mythology

This is an interesting link for Delphi people:
www.pantheon.org/articles/p/python.html
The old name of Delphi was Pytho.
I think the language Python is becoming more and more important. I would
love it if Python was included as a personality in BDS.
And from a mythological perspective it would be perfect if Oracle bought
Delphi and included Python in BDS :)

The Python language was named after the TV shown, Monty Python's Flying
Circus. The same show was also responsible for giving the computer world the
term 'Spam'. Given the fact that one of Monty Python's most famous sketches
was about a dead parrot, the auspices may not look quite so favourable...

Re:Python, Delphi and Mythology

True :)
But I still think that Python would be a nice addition to BDS. Delphi and
C++ are competing languages, but Python as a scripting ("agile") language is
a nice supplement to Delphi.
There are free IDEs available, but none of them IMHO as good as the IDE in
BDS (including Eclipse which can be convinced to edit Python scripts).
I can recommend "Python for Delphi":
mmm-experts.com/Downloads.aspx
This is a component set for executing Python scripts from Delphi
applications.
The installer does not recognize Delphi 2006, only Delphi 2005 and earlier..

That one is incredible.
But my favourite still is the one where Eric Idle walks into the shop
where they sell five minutes quarrelling for five pounds and he then
instead inadvertently enters the office where they sell five minutes
insulting..

Except then the BDS would become the ODS, and I don't think I like the
sound of that!

One reason I dislike Delphi IDE package installers. I think I can unzip
the libraries, include the help in the IDE, and compile the packages
myself, thank you.

Of course, I couldn't resist a lead in like that so, with apologies to
John Cleese et al (and DevRel, for that matter):
Delphi Developer: 'Ello, I wish to register a QC Item.
(The owner does not respond.)
Delphi Developer: 'Ello, Miss?
John Kaster: What do you mean "miss"?
Delphi Developer: {pause} I am sorry, I have a cold. I wish to register
a QC Item!
John Kaster: We're closin' for Borcon.
Delphi Developer: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about
this IDE what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very
boutique.
John Kaster: Oh yes, the, uh, BDS 2005...What's,uh...What's wrong with
it?
Delphi Developer: I will tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'E's dead,
that's what's wrong with it!
John Kaster: No, no, 'e's uh,...he's parsing.
Delphi Developer: Look, matey, I know a dead IDE when I see one, and
I'm looking at one right now.
John Kaster: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable IDE,
BDS 2005, idn'it, ay? Beautiful refactoring!
Delphi Developer: The refactoring don't enter into it. it is stone dead.
John Kaster: Nononono, no, no! 'E's parsing!
Delphi Developer: All right then, if he's parsing, I will wake him up!
(hits <ctrl C>) 'Ello, Mister IDE! I have got a lovely fresh .pas file
for you if you show...
(owner hits the PC)
John Kaster: There, he moved!
Delphi Developer: No, he didn't, that was you hitting the PC!
John Kaster: I never!!
Delphi Developer: Yes, you did!
John Kaster: I never, never did anything...
Delphi Developer: (yelling and hitting <ctrl c>repeatedly) 'ELLO
IDE!!!!! Unit Testing! Unit Testing! Unit Testing! Unit Testing! This is
your nine o'clock alarm call!
(Takes manual out of the briefcase and thumps its on the counter.
Throws it up in the air and watches it plummet to the floor.)
Delphi Developer: Now that is what I call a dead IDE.
John Kaster: No, no.....No, 'e's paused!
Delphi Developer: PAUSED?!?
John Kaster: Yeah! You paused him, just as he was wakin' up! BDS 2005's
pause easily, major.
Delphi Developer: Um...now look...now look, mate, I have definitely 'ad
enough of this. That IDE is definitely deceased, and when I purchased
it not 'alf an hour ago, you assured me that its total lack of movement
was due to it bein' tired and shagged out following a prolonged
compile.
John Kaster: Well, he's...he's, ah...probably pining for the ALM tools.
Delphi Developer: PININ' for the ALM TOOLS?!?!?!? What kind of talk is
that?, look, why did he fall flat on his back the moment I loaded a
project into 'im?
John Kaster: BDS 2005 prefers compilin' on it is back! Remarkable IDE,
id'nit, squire? Lovely refactoring!
Delphi Developer: Look, I took the liberty of examining that IDE when I
got it home, and I discovered the only reason that it had been sitting
on the desktop in the first place was that it was a Camtasia demo.
(pause)
John Kaster: Well, o'course it was a Camtasia Demo! If I hadn't used a
Camtasia demo, it would have nuzzled up to the editor, bent it apart
with its project manager, and VOOM! Feeweeweewee!
Delphi Developer: "VOOM"?!? Mate, this IDE wouldn't "voom" if you ran
Turbo Pascal through it! 'E's bleedin' demised!
John Kaster: No no! 'E's pining!
Delphi Developer: 'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This IDE is no more!
He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is architect! 'E's
a stiff! Bereft of code, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't put in a
Camtasia demo 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is compiling processes
are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's raised an A/V, 'e's
shuffled off 'is mortal coil, rung down the IUnknown and joined the
bleedin' compiler invisibile!! THIS IS AN
EX-IDE!!
(pause)
John Kaster: Well, I would better replace it, then. (he takes a quick peek
behind the counter) Sorry squire, I have had a look 'round the back of
the shop, and uh, we're right out of IDEs.
Delphi Developer: I see. I see, I get the picture.
John Kaster: {pause} I got an ALM tool.
(pause)
Delphi Developer: (sweet as sugar) Pray, does it compile?
John Kaster: Nnnnot really.
Delphi Developer: WELL it is HARDLY A {*word*76}Y REPLACEMENT, IS IT?!!???!!?

Um, mind sharing where you got a printed manual thick enough to actually
make a thump? Or even a plummet? Pretty please? ;-)
