Delphi 2005 and dot net 2.0 support

Hi,
We are currently reviewing Delphi 2005 Trial, My question is How Delphi 2005 going to support .Net 2.0 as well as Asp.NET 2.0 with design and IDE change.
Is Borland planning an upgrade with Delphi 2005 when .NET 2.0 is released. If yes is it free for Delphi 2005 customers?
Thanks,
Achu

Borland will support .NET 2.0, but it hasn't been announced whether or
not it will be a free update. My wild guess is that it will not be free.

Re:Delphi 2005 and dot net 2.0 support

I guess there will be a Delphi 200*6* with .Net 2.0 support this year.
Moreover a Delphi 2006 Win64 beta edition.

I'm beginning to doubt whether .NET 2.0 will be out this year. I
wouldn't be surprised to see Delphi 2006 actually come out in 2006
due to .NET slipping.

Although if you buy Software Assurance you will get free upgrades for
a year.

I am sure there will be more to Delphi 2006 than .NET 2.0 support. For
instance, the BCBuilder customers have been waiting 3 years for this
update (we're still on VCL 6!) and I suspect there will be many other
IDE and project manager improvements, more refactorings etc. If .NET
2.0 does slip into 2006, I'd be very happy to see D2006 shipping
later this year without it - so long as 'it is ready' ;?

I am *all* for getting another release of Delphi out this year,
with C++ support and whatever improvements to the ASP.NET &
Together stuff they can throw in. If .NET 2.0 and Delphi Win32
Generics make it in, great, if not, wait till next year.

i'd be very surprised to see a Delphi 2006 released without/before .NET 2.0
is final, to be honest.

It's very easy to be very surprised when making conclusions based on
guesswork.

Predicting is hard, especially the future :)

Do you actually /read/ my mails, or do you just see "From: marc hoffman" and
think "ah, another post by marc. i better get irritated and post some
reply"?
If you look at my post again, you will notice that i didn't make any
"conclusions", at all. I merely stated that me, personally, would be very
surprised if Borland released Delphi 2006 without .NET 2.0 support*. Is that
ok with you, or should i make sure to double-check with you what is allowed
to surprise me and what not, in the future?
(*ftr, i know it is hard to believe, since apparently you can not do
differently then read /anything/ i say as criticism of Borland, but it
wasn't, any more than - say "I'd be surprised if Borland released Delphi
2006 with Commodore 64 support.")
thanx for playing.

I wouldn't be surprised either way, personally. There is a lot that can
still be done with refactoring and Together integration, feature porting to
win32, integration of BCB, possible work with a CF designer, etc.
While .NET 2.0 is important, Borland cannot control it being repeatedly
delayed by Microsoft, and it is not like there aren't other things available
that Borland could do to make a new Delphi release worthwhile even in its
absence.
