Hello,
What do you people thinking about using Flash for developing professional
applications.
Flash can be very portable, and with ActionScript can be maked very nice
"aplications" and games. Don't forget how Flash is popular today.
With new version of Flash mx, macromedia introduce some class structure and
components too, but I think that programming in flash is very hard, it is
more easy for designing.
Maybe Borland can thinking in this direction, to release in future something
like Flash Builder. To have some new Flash VCL (TFrame, TDocument,
TFlashCanvas...)

Jeeze..please go away with Flash. Better look on real standards like SVG
(Scalable Vector Graphics)
->www.w3c.org (XML-Based). Flash furthermore is not a format or anything
but only an authoring
tool for the SWF Format from Macromedia (A binary, unreadable and bad
structured format).
So, a Flash Builder would be at the end a Builder Builder or something ;-)
Just my $.01

Flash is a real standard in the sense that almost everybody has it installed
within their browser. Ubiquity has its virtues. So Borland components for
it aren't a bad idea.

A most excellent idea, as the Flash DLL can be used from within your own
programs.
You could make a very pretty design for your application's windows, if only
there would be some kind of RAD for Flash..

I don't. I hate that thing.

I hate the nagging for the new update. But no matter how much I try and
avoid it, I end up using a site which makes me download it.

I personnally have corrupted the Flash DLL so it won't load and popup all
those annoying adverti{*word*224}ts... Had to corrupt it, if you turn it off the
"clean" way, you still get annoying prompts in the place of adverti{*word*224}ts.

Re:Flash as development tool

The one real need for Flash for me is Fasa Studios site. They won't show
without Flash. I hate it because it used mainly for ads and for
self-expression of idiots. Both anger me, so i disabled it via my personal
firewall.

No! Never! Borland, please don't do that. Any thing that serve to Flash
widespread should be banned...

Not everyone needs to design fancy UI apps. A lot of needs to develop
applications with a standard look & feel (that of the underlying OS) to
shorten user training.

So, just because a lot of peoples have the Flash Viewer installed - Flash is
automatically a standard? nah - that is rubbish.
And again, *Flash* is only the name for an authoring Tool, nothing more.
SWF is the format we're talking about here. And here comes the question -
why not using the Scalable Vector Graphics Format?
Its open, its *real* standardized, its xml. Its easy to use and the viewer
is currently installed on around 50-80 million computers. Isn't that enough?
Support the open standards instead of that stupid Flash that is useable
for advertising and annoying animated popups - that is it.

Use Scalable Vector Graphics and you could use that already ...

While I agree that Flash is very much overused "for the sake of it", if you
have ever seen a database site running with a Flash front end, you can
really see the potential. HTML can only go so far, particularly when you are
designing applications for non-computer literate people. This is where Flash
absolutely excels, as you can make it as simple or complex as required.
SVG is great for graphics but that is it...
