dBase III index with D4

Can anyone tell me how to create a table/index
for dBase III(+) using Delphi 4 ?  (.dbf / .ndx)
The production / non-production index files
(.ndx vs. .mdx) seems to be a real mess.

Or, can anyone point me to the file format for
.ndx files ?

TIA.

There is no built-in means for creating index files of this long-obsolete
type. Support in Delphi itself is limited to backward compatibility,
supporting use of existing non-maintained dBASE indexes.

You can still create such indexes from within a Delphi application, but you
must resort to BDE API: DbiAddIndex.
