ORA-01041:Internal Error-Hostdef extension does not exist

I tried to use SQL explorer to connect to oracle
8i. Sql explorer and Oracle 8i are installed on
the same machine. I always get this error. If i
use sql explorer from a different machine, i am
able to connect to the database.
