Jouni,
| it is probably just power saving. When nothing is happening,
| 3.4GHz CPU is running with slower speed. If you start something
| heavy that eats lots of CPU, CPU-Z probably shows higher MHz.
Hmmm,... I didn't even know the processor could do that. I will see if
I can check it out.
Thanks!

David,
| Is it perhaps one of those speed-reduction-in-the-BIOS things, for
| when the CPU isn't busy?
Jouni also suggested that. When I get a moment I am going to check it
out.
Thanks!

Re: Fastcode 2008 CPU Target Set

Dennis,
| Perhaps the CPU cooler is not working. It tried using a Prescott 2 3.2
| without the cooler properly mounted and it ran perfectly at 1 GHz !
The "cooler" is a stack of fins. And I just blew the dust out of it a
couple of days ago. <g>
Please see the other replies in this thread. I will report back when
I've done a bit of checking.

I wrote a quick-and-dirty little app to test the surmise you all had.
You were correct!
See Attachments for a screen shot of the test results (Q's CPU Speed
Test Results).
Thanks to all!

Try CPU-Z: www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-142.zip
it fails to provide core name for a system running on Xen :(
Is the core of an Intel Core 2, 2.40GHz, E6600, socket 775 LGA nocona?

Self answered, it seems to be a conroe... damned, all my gentoo packages
need to be updated :(
