Based on the fact that the same amount of US$ today buys less than it did
yesterday naturally in order to cover the cost of keeping his business open
he would have to raise his prices. So Kim I totally agree with your decision
to move your prices if it is necessary to keep your doors open.
Imagine if he were Euro based? Then all in America would be crying foul!

Due to the drastically sliding US$, we are forced to react by increasing
the price on all our products with 20%.
We are continously monitoring the rate, and may later adjust the price
again, up or down, to match the value of the US$ at that point in time.

The price change will be effectuated Friday March 14. 2008.

It will cover the following products:

kbmMW Professional Edition
kbmMW Enterprise Edition
kbmMW Professional Edition SAU
kbmMW Enterprise Edition SAU
kbmMW Cross upgrades
kbmMW lower version upgrades
kbmMW Spider
kbmMW InControl Repository Server
kbmMW InControl Management Console

True, but I have had not renew subscriptions for many euro based components
because the exchange rates are killing me. Guess it makes American
components more attractive now.

True, but if they (or other US products) had been attractive enough in the
first place, the value of the USD wouldn't have dropped at all :-) Put very
simply, of course.

Re: Notice - Price change on all Components4Developers products

True, but America's problems go way beyong the quality of their products.

Ahem (feeling mischievous).. now you know how we down under felt a few
years back when our dollar was trading around 45c to $1US.

Nevermind, I am sure someone's doing better than any of us out of this.

Read the above part "backwards"!
PS not aiming on just you Johann, it is more a general question:
Is bottom-posting "out of fashion"?

Johann.
Each component vendor will have to decide the risk/reward with raising
their prices significantly to the American market.
If there is an American component vendor in the competition, the
American developers will probably buy the home team (example would be
ElevateDB to NexusDB or DevExpress to TMS).
Any how, each business has to decide what works for them.

Shane

Nope!!! People are apparently just using deficient news clients. Or
don't know how to configure them correctly.

indeed. another way to look at it is this: rather that looking at this
in a glass-half-empty fashion ("i'm not getting as much cash out of my
European customers as i could"), why not think of it this way:
the low US$ makes your product pricing a lot more attractive to non-US
customers. why not see that as an opportunity to have *more* users get
your product, while the price is low? The beauty of our market - opposed
to, say, goods that are physically manufactures - is that if you sell
twice the number, at half the price, you revenue is still (roughly) the
same.

Quite right! I (in the UK) personally have bought [non development]
software from the US that I probably wouldn't have a few years ago but the
$/GBP rate makes it worth a go to see how good it was, whereas at a higher
price (to me) I wouldn't have bothered.
I have also purchased items in the US that I can get in the UK but the
exchange rate means it is cheaper for me to buy in the US and have it
shipped either direct or via my sister (who lives in the US). These sales
would not have happened if the exchange rate was not what it was.
Of course, when my sister visits here at the moment, the rate kills her!

Marc, I couldn't have said it better. ;-)
I was about to ditch DevEx's VCL Annual Subscription (due EOM) but is now
becoming more affordable all the time. On par with AU$.
