Win-Vista beta-1 for DL plus a video for non-crash dummies

The beta-1 of Vista is suppose to be currently available for DL from MSDN. Some
may want to take it for a test drive and others may be interested in learning
more but not willing to get involved with a test drive (dare I mention crash
dummies;>)) so here is a video for those folks.
channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx
Chris Jones, a corporate vice president tasked with building and shipping the
beta Win Vista product talks about what's in beta 1 and a little about beta-2
and the roadmap. It sounds to me like they may be planning on going gold during
the 3-4th qtr of '06 which is more-or-less about the same time as Delphi
Highland is expected.
The video is 34 min long and can be streamed at 555kb/s or if you DL the wmv
file it is 139MB.
The first 5 min is mostly introductions and joking, the next 6 min contains a
lot of MS-BS, the eye candy starts at about 11 min, with developer info starting
at about 15 min. At about 19 min there is a discursion of a new Internet enabled
debugging facility built into Vista that us developers may find interesting. At
21 min there is the beginning of a discussion of what is in and what was left
out and how the .NET framework relates to the OS.

The instrumenting stuff he was talking about should be interesting. I
wonder if it will be .net only. Also getting error reports from M$
might be good. I always wondered what they did with the millions of
error reports they get.
All the new UI stuff is just fluff. Who cares if I can see though the
title bar. The feature I was looking forward to the most, WinFS, will
be one of the few things they are leaving out.

I had never heard of this before, had you? But I understood him to say that if
turned on the user would have an option to click the button to report any error
to a MS server (somewhat as now) and the developer could have MS forward that
report on to him by email. When asked how large a developer had to be to avail
himself of the service he replied all ,even single shop developers, would only
need to signup to receive the reports - I can hear the oh my gawd MS is scooping
up my info already. ;-)

Your fluff is spun into my wife's fabric of user friendly.

Yep, but he did say it would follow later as an add-on, how far down the road
who knows.

Never heard about error reporting tool in Win XP ?
Minidumps are really great to debug errors afterwards they have occured
on a client´s computer, without needing to reproduce the error.
Would be great if they would be supported natively by the DeXter IDE.
