checking and grammar checking which is quite important to me ( I am
surprised hat they haven't integrated these into Frontpage). The
problem with Word is that you can not go beyond what it can do. You
can't use Framesets or CSS or any custom tags.

Don't believe all the grammar advice you get from Word. Years ago I got a
mail-in advert from MS. The tear off coupon said, "Yes, please register my
colleagues and I..." when it should have read "... and me ..." because the
phrase is the object of a sentence. I briefly contemplated sending Mr. Bill
an email criticizing his marketers for not running their own copy through
the grammar checker, but ran the experiment myself first. Word passed that
misconstruction. WordPerfect and Lotus' word processor (formerly AmiPro,
but I can not remember its current name) both failed it.
I heard later that Gates makes the same mistake.

Can anyone recommend any good web page editor? (And why would you
recommend them?)

Has everyone forgotten about the Homesite clone that was written in
Delphi called 1stPage 2000?

Well I am not sure if it can be treated as a web page "editor" but you
could try Dynamic Architect at www.dynamicarchitect.com which
is an extremely easy to use delphi-like approach to create dynamic
web pages.
Have you used it? The collection of components seems rather small, and
omits a couple of things I'd have thought obvious: tables and menus.

Ah, I see ;)

You can create tables using the included text editor (which is a lot
Word like).
Of course, but I also find tables to be one of the things that most
benefits from access to a visual tool, which is why I mentioned them.

Menus are not supported as a component but can easily be created
using panels and actions. They are planned to be natively supported
in a future version though... the problem is that, in opposition to
an operating system, where the menus are "standard", web sites may
include {*word*118} menus: vertical, horizontal, colorful, centered,
right aligned, you name it... and it is not a small task to create an
easy to use and as exhaustive as possible interface to accomplish
that.
I understand. I was wondering, for example, how much of the
dynamicarchitect.com site was visually constructed with Dynamic
Architect, and how much of the work was purely text-editor based. I
like the site, by the way, and particularly like the menu design.

I too loved Homesite (before Nick Bradbury sold it off).
Have you tried Topstyle? Nick has essentially produced an alternative
to Homesite that handles CSS very nicely, but also does the HTML editing
bit quite well too. :-) By all accounts, Topstyle IS the new Homesite
because it is by the same author.

Kevin.

I'm glad you like it :)
Unfortunately, none of it was created using Dynamic Architect, as the
program was heavily under development when the web site was launched.
However, as it is a frequently asked question, I have recreated the default
page layout using Dynamic Architect in about 10 minutes... I could send the
project to you if you'd like to take a look and see how close the result
looks like. The file is only 74 KB.

Yes, I'd like to see it, and to see how such a file is handled by
Dynamic Architect. You can send it to me directly, after removing NO
SPAM from my address, of course ;)
And thanks for offering!
