FoxPro - Hey Borland!!

What did you guys do to 4.5x of the BDE?  Why is Alias Manager in DD
asking for a password with the FoxPro driver selected?   Why can't I
create a FoxPro table  "Capability Not Supported" or "Alias is not of
the chosen type"   Are you EVER going to get FoxPro support correct?
When is the BDE going to support FindKey on a multi expressioned index
tag?  When is TTable.Mastersource going to support multi expressioned
index tags? (FoxPro does)  When is the performance level of SQL selects
with more than 1 table going to improve?   Here's an idea: Why don't you
buy Halcyon and use his code in place of yours, he's got index support
correct, he can co-share FoxPro tables between BDE apps and legacy
FoxPro apps.  To answer your question: because I need cached update
capabilities.  All we're asking for is some stability, is that too hard
to ask.  You've done a wonderful job on Delphi, I would really hate to
walk away from it, but your BDE suckS!!!  This is the only place MS
kicks your butt, please do something about it.

I fought hard at my place of employment to get Delphi in as our new
development platform, and now 8 months later and still nothing but BDE
-> FoxPro headaches I am about 2 inches away from having my project
s{*word*99}ped by my boss and having to work back in FoxPro or worse VB, not
to mention the "shame" of having chosen the wrong RAD development
platform!!

If anyone from Borland reads this and cares, thanks for listening!

I am trying to do the same thing.  PLEASE Borland give use some simple
things, like a seek command.  The BDE is used by DBASE and it has seeks!
Why can't   we use them in Delphi.

Re:FoxPro - Hey Borland!!

Hell, this goes for the BDE in general.  It is SLOW.  Databases with large
BLOB fields get corrupted regularly.  It is buggy.  I've spent a great deal
of time investigating alternatives because the BDE is poor, and I've gotten
the same flack about my choice of RAD.  So... I'll add my two cents worth:
Borland:  Fix up the BDE.

Are you using Halcyon? if not why not?

Any product is going to have plusses and minuses, weak areas and strong
areas. Do you think foxpro or vb have fewer? Your job as a developer is to
get from point a to point b. If you have to buy some 3rd party products to
do so then so be it. Look how many 3rd party products are out there for
foxpro and vb. They are out there because foxpro and vb can't do it!

Also, considering that the BDE is the central point of many of their
application development platforms (Paradox, dBase, C++, BCB, Delphi, and
others?) that this is the single most important application they make.

One more beef of mine is that the documentation *still* says that the
BDE supports Clipper NTX index files but of course it doesn't.
Obviously in the beginning they had planned for this support and put it
in the documentation but never put the support in the product.
