LAST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2)
               unmoderated group comp.databases.btrieve

Newsgroups line:
comp.databases.btrieve  Pervasive Software client/server development.

Votes must be received by 23:59:59 UTC, 9 Apr 1997.

This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party.  Questions
about the proposed group should be directed to the proponent.

Proponent: Kathy Jones <ka...@smithware.com>
Votetaker: Jani Patokallio <jpato...@alpha.hut.fi>

RATIONALE: comp.databases.btrieve

As client/server computing has grown to be an important facet of the
business community, Pervasive Software Inc's client/server
development, reporting and database tools have become of major
importance to the business and software development community.
Because of the wide range of applications in which Pervasive's
products may be used, there is a need for a forum in which to discuss
problems associated with application development. This forum will
serve as a place for users of Pervasive's products to solve problems
and share ideas. It is hoped this forum will be a place Pervasive will use
to aid their customers and to solicit information about those
customers' needs. The rationale in choosing the name
comp.databases.btrieve for the newsgroup is derived from the fact that
client/server computing usually involves accessing databases. In the
case of Pervasive's products, Btrieve is the primary tool for
implementing this access; it will also be the appropriate place to
discuss the relational database product Scalable SQL. This also leaves
open the possibility of adding groups for discussion of the other
Pervasive Software products.

CHARTER: comp.databases.btrieve

The comp.databases.btrieve newsgroup will be open to discussion of the
use of and any problems or conditions arising from the use of
Pervasive Software's Btrieve, Scalable SQL, Xtrieve, ODBC, and other
Pervasive products in the client/server environment. Specific topics
may include but are not limited to:

        Installation
        Bugs, Fixes and Workarounds
        Programming Methodology
SQL Programming (specific to Pervasive Software products)
        Product Comparisons
        Security
ODBC and Middleware Interfaces to Pervasive products
Legacy Data and access by Pervasive products
Client-server issues specific to Pervasive products

Binaries are banned. Messages that advertise products using Pervasive
Software products or products that enhance Pervasive Software products
are allowed.

This group is not affiliated with Pervasive Software Inc, but it is
hoped that employees of Pervasive Software will participate in the
discussions.

END CHARTER.

HOW TO VOTE:

Follow these instructions *exactly*!  Votes are counted by computer.
You should send E-MAIL (posts to a newsgroup are invalid) to:

    vot...@hut.fi

Please do not assume that just replying to this message will work.
Check the address before you mail your vote.  Your mail message
should contain one and only one of the following vote statements:

    I vote YES on comp.databases.btrieve
    I vote NO on comp.databases.btrieve

    Voter name:

If your mail software does not indicate your real name (for example, AOL and
Delphi do not), include _exactly_ the statement above on a _separate_ line
and add your name after the colon.  Having your name in your signature line
is NOT enough!  Do NOT join the lines together or remove the words
"Voter name"!

You may also vote ABSTAIN (which does exactly that) or CANCEL (which
removes any earlier votes).  ABSTAIN does not affect the final vote count
in any way but is listed, whereas CANCEL is not.

IMPORTANT VOTING PROCEDURE NOTES:

Standard Guidelines for voting apply.  One person, one vote.  Votes
must be mailed directly from the voter to the votetaker.  Anonymous,
forwarded or proxy votes are not valid.  Votes mailed by WWW/HTML/CGI
forms are considered to be anonymous votes.

Vote counting is automated.  Failure to follow these directions may
mean that your vote does not get counted.  If you do not receive an
acknowledgment of your vote within three days contact the votetaker
about the problem.  It's your responsibility to make sure your vote
is registered correctly.  Duplicate votes are resolved in favor of
the most recent valid vote.  Addresses and votes of all voters will
be published in the final voting results post.

The purpose of a Usenet vote is to determine the genuine interest of
persons who would read a proposed newsgroup.  Soliciting votes from
disinterested parties defeats this purpose.  Please do not distribute
this CFV.  If you must, direct people to the official CFV as posted
to news.announce.newgroups.  Distributing pre-marked or otherwise
edited copies of this CFV is generally considered to be vote fraud.
When in doubt, ask the votetaker.

This CFV was created with uvpq 1.0beta (Mar  2 1997).
