Changing varchar field lengths

The Descrption field is currently varchar(25)
Run the script....
ALTER TABLE EmpHistDetail
ALTER COLUMN Description TYPE VARCHAR(30)
Looking at the 'Properties' with IBConsole, the field is VarChar(32).
However, the metadata shows varchar(30).
Seems like both should be the same...
Thanks,
Tom Greenway

This is an old IB 6 bug ... What version are you running?

This is a bug and is fixed in newer versions of IB. You can work
around it by updating the values in the system tables to the correct
length and then doing a backup and restore.
