While waiting for a download, I clicked on a link to a "VS.NET Special
Edition", msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/se/, which lists Delphi among
the products that are eligible for a competitive upgrade. Gasp..

NP. As usual it is "US and Canadian Customers only"...

Re:MS is offering a competitive upgrade

Well, good then, I guess. I didn't realize the pro version included a devel
copy of Windows 2003 Server or that it could do mobile development. My boss bought a
subsription,, Universal, I think so I never paid much attention to the Pro
offerings.

NP=No Problem? You're not in the US or Canada, I presume?

I am wondering why Borland does not do the same. At least with VB
developers.

I don't either. If they did, we'd probably see a bazillion messages from
ticked off Delphi users that think they're getting the short end of the
stick though, but what else is new. :)
They already 'give away' a devel copy of sql server (which I assume they
probably actually pay for) but how can they include a devel copy of W3k

It's hardly compelling value
It is still "for only US $549"
It contains VS2003, not 2005.
Pro SKU.
Plus an OS (any developer would have an OS anyway) and SQL Server (we have
already got copes with Delphi, eg Delphi 8, and if we didn't, MS were
selling the developer licence for it at $50 per developer anyway).
I'm sure it is a good promotion for some people, but I can not see how it's
going to set the world on fire!

Harris Technology have it in Australia, and I believe you can upgrade from
Delphi.

I meant "No Problem" (for Borland, because the offer is geographically
very limited), but Nota Bene is fine too.

Yes, I think bundling Delphi with a Borland operating system would be
great. Microsoft, being the 800 pound gorilla has its privelages.
