Ok now I am getting upset to say the least. Codegear sends me an exe
file, I run it to get an upgrade, it says it can not extract something
from the EXE FILE THAT THEY CREATED, so after numerous retries, the
only way out is to cancel and THEN DELPHI exe is gone so I can not even
continue working with upgrade 2 version.
And tech support is "busy" answering other calls so after being out of
business for an hour already, I am now sitting here searching for an
answer on the newsgroups and all I find is deleting "a couple" of
appdata folders with guid type names (none of which relate to delphi
directly unless setup.dat is from delphi. I see two of them.).
So what do I do here to get back up? Any suggestions. This is really
disturbing. I was beginning to be really pleased with codegear again
but this is intolerable. I waited a solid week after I downloaded this
looking for flack from others on update 3 and saw none. Today I decided
to bite the bullet and install it. I didn't know it was going to go off.
I'll try to download a new EXE file. Maybe they fixed it since I
downloaded it.

that was only a leader and the full file was 751mb. Wow that would take
71 hours on dialup (if I didn't loose the connection which I certainly
would).
Anyway, I have called a business that I deal with and which has
high-speed and they have tried to download the file for me but are
getting a "server-busy" error. So I can not even download the file that
way. This totally sucks. Is there an undo for the download that will
put back my update2 version?

While the over the net upgrade worked fine for me it appears that
downloading a full setup is also an option. it is not clear to me if
that's what you already tried.

I was able to download the file at a business that had an 800kb/sec
download speed and then installed it with no further problems. Because
of server-busy errors, I went all over the place before I was able to
get that download. I started the upgrade install at 9:00 am or so and
finally got back up and running by 4:30 or so.
I'm a busy person running on cruise control at the highest speed I can
go most of the time, going from item to item and often project to
project. I don't read EULA's in general because I don't have the time.
It seems I am installing an update for something at least twice a week.
Most take only a few minutes and don't cause any problems. I realize
delphi is the largest program I use daily and that its upgrades would
naturally take longer. I also realize the tradeoff that codegear is
making in putting out upgrades that are re-installs. It takes a lot
more release management to make delta-patches and they are putting that
time into making more content and I appreciate that.
I should have made an image backup of my harddrive before attempting to
install this upgrade. That would have taken me about 30-40 mins and
about 10 mins to restore when the upgrade failed.
I had hoped upgrade 3 would fix some of the errors I encounter often,
like av in coreide100.bpl when I close delphi with an open project.
Alas that is probably the most frequent and visible problem I see and
it's still there after the update.
