to Turbo Delphi 2006 Pro. What would be the best version to migrate
to; the .Net or Win32 version? I am leaning towards the .Net version.
Bear in mind that if you migrate to the .Net version, you can only
create .NET programs - you won't be able to compile native Win32
applications. That may or may not be a concern. Jumping five versions,
you're likely to encounter some migration pain, but migrating to .NET
will certainly be more work.

What or who is CodeGear?
That's the name of the company that Borland recently spun off. All the
developer tools that used to be Borland's now are part of CodeGear.
They didn't move just the products, though - they also sent along all
the experienced developers who created those products.

I used several 3rd party components with D5 like Raize and Woll2Woll.
Does anyone know if these products have versions that will work with
the Turbo Delphi versions?
Google is your friend:
www.woll2woll.com/InfoPower.html
www.raize.com/DevTools/RzComps/Requirements.asp
Note that Raize components are for the Win32 edition, not .NET.

Again, Google is your friend:

I'm pretty sure that Woll2Woll has a Delphi 2006 version.
You could find out for sure at

If you want to explore both Win32 and .NET, you may want to pay a few
bucks more and upgrade to the full Delphi 2006 product (AKA Borland
Developers Studio).

Anything that works will Delphi 2006 should also work with Turbo.
I'm pretty sure Raize has been updated for D2006. Check the archives
at the thirdpartytools.general newsgroup, or post there if necessary.

For .NET, no. For Win32, yes in some cases, where the components have
been updated. See threads in this newsgroup and the
thirdpartytools.general
group. You get the source, so if you have the time and skill, you can
probably get things working yourself.

In my opinion, stick with Win32.

They do, however they are one of the few vendors that decided to charge
a large upgrade fee to suppport D2006 without adding any new
functionality from the previous version.

I think that is a bit unfair. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of
Delphi programmers haven't yet heard of CodeGear. Of course, all of us
"normal" guys visit the non-tech forum daily....

How does one judge "unfair" on this group? :-)
No, of course there would be some who did not know, but that would mean
that not only do they not frequent Borland forums, (a reasonable
assumption), but they also must not frequent other developer forums, as
the news spread about everywhere. Not to mention that they would have
to have skipped virtually all related trade journals where numerous
related articles were published both before and after. Oh, yeah, I
believe there was also an email from David I to the Delphi Developer
base after the split. IMHO, that constitutes a pretty "huge rock".

Using a word like "judge" implies a degree of consideration and
reflection that would be uncharacteristic of this group.

Some people are too busy doing what they _are_ doing to take the time to
listen/read about what others might be doing.

Some developers simply have a "job", not a vocation.
I know plenty of developers who don't have ny real _interest_ in their
profession, they merely practice it to the best of their ability during
working hours and leave it behind when they leave the office each day.
