fast interbase

I'm about to install a 200 MB interbase database on either a
linux-box or a solaris and have a few questions about
performance issues

Which architecture should I use? Classic or super?
Currently I use only one CPU and the problems with SS
and many CPU's shouldn't have to be a problem.
stability is on the other hand VERY important.

Is the optimal size of the datapages always 4096?

What is write ahead log and what can it do for me? Is it the
same as asyncron. writes?

How should I dimension the buffers? I have 1 GB RAM.

Does the interbase gain performance of a XEON processor
or is it better to change to alpha?

Thanks!
