Testing apps

Hi guys, does anyone know of a program which can simulate different execute
conditions for an app?
For example: I want to test my app on a Pentium I 133MHz/32MB RAM/??? 4MB
Graphic Card but I can find no such dinosaur, so I would like to have a program
which would limit the resources of my app and I can see how (bad) it would
behave.
It doesn't have to be a program, I could settle for code that would limit
the app resources (when included in the app).
The reason I need this kind of tool is because I am building my
apps/components on an Athlon 64 3200+ /1GB RAM/256MB Graphic Card, so
everything runs fast and there's no flickering, but as soon as run the app
on a less powerful machine get dissapointed because there are lots of things
flickering, not opening as fast as I want them too, scrolling alot slower,
etc...

Even though I think that the best solution would be to get an old POS
(Point-Of-Sales) PC from some company replacing their old POS hardware,
which you could probably find on eBay (and strip it down to bare bones), I
think Virtual Machines (VMWare) can also do this, but I have never done it
(always went out and got me a real PC).

Re:Testing apps

Thanks Daniel, I will try VMWare, maybe it is what I was looking for. :)

You can try from Parallels Workstation from www.parallels.com/. It
cost less than VMware's similar product and will fit your need also.
I've tried both and as far as I can say right now I did not encounter any
serious issues.

Re:Testing apps

I'm sure I read recently that VMWare was not free under GPL or something...
or I could just be imagining that ....

VMWare Server is now available for free. VMWare Player has been
free for a while but only runs virtual machines so other
products are needed to create them.

Yes, that is true: VMWare now offers GSX Server for free. I have installed (a
beta version) it for quite a week now and it seems that I can even create
virtual machines w/o VMWare Workstation.
Of course I can re-use the virtual machines created with VMWare
Workstation, however you have to buy this product whereas GSX Server is
free.
Let's see if VMWare is going to remove the ability to create VMs from GSX
Server in future versions.
