I dont think the two items have anything in common at all.
Older PLCs have 'home made' pseudo-programming languages or
ladder diagrams and some other interfaces.
Some newer PLC use a Pascal-ish style language, but again its usually
'home made' even though its an ISO standard. I forget the numbers right
now.
There are some reasonable MMI packages available. InTouch,FixDMACS and
many more.
