Is Pascal dead or just dying?

Is Pascal destined to go to that great compiler repository in the sky? Is
it going to join it's friends like Ada 83, Fortran 77, Eiffel, and
countless other "doomed" programming languages only to be replaced by
C/C++? I sure hope not, but it appears to be so. It's been years since I
saw a job opening for Pascal programmers. Oh well, at least we can be
content in the knowlege that we havn't been wasting our time learning
somthing like BASIC.

I really agree with you about the demise of Pascal. Just check Borland's
web site and see how much you can find about pascal products.

Pascal, I doubt, will be coming out with any new advancements, for obvious
reasons. So if you consider that to be a dead language, then yes it is.
However i think it will cotinue to be used as a learning language like it
was originally intended. However it's still a pretty good language aside
from all that.

Pascal dead or dying? Nope, just not growing

I think that Borland Pascal is dead, but not Pascal in general. There are
quite a lot of other Pascal compilers to choose from, among them some
free ones. If you're interested, you can find links on my page.
(The free ones have the big advantage that you won't get dependant upon
one company to decide to let the compiler die.)

It does. GNU Pascal, e.g. is coming out with new advancements almost
every day. :-)

Would that include Delphi as well ????.......
And learning language because it was the first language you learned ?

Pascal is very well alive in Delphi, but if we are talking about
ansi-pascal I tend to agree...

You're right. Actually TMT Pascal is, I think, the best Pascal compiler.
It rules OK. Borland's Pascal is dead many years ago...

Could you please let me know the address of your page? Do you happen to
know
any free implementation of Algol68? Algol68 impressed me more than any
other
languages. But that was back in 1985!
