The "Phantom" IDE docking problem

I can reproduce it every time.  D5Pro, Win98:    Bug Reference 32989.
Reported in September 99 but haven't heard a word since.

Steps to reproduce:

(1) Dock the component palette toolbar at the left hand edge of the
main IDE window.  (I prefer all the other toolbars turned off, so this
arrangement is natural for me)

(2) Close Delphi

(3) Re-open Delphi

(4) Spend remainder of working day muttering magic words while
unsuccessfully trying to restore toolbar layout and component palette.

Key point to note is that it only happens if you dock the *component
palette* at the extreme left hand edge of the main IDE window.
The registry key that saves the toolbar arrangement is then corrupted
or truncated and the toolbar placement is scrambled when you restart.

You may lose the palette completely, but deleting the registry key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Borland\Delphi\5.0\Toolbars"
will force D5 to re-create the key with default values and will
restore the default toolbar layout and component palette.

Just a guess but I wonder if an X value of zero for the palette
co-ordinates may be acting as a null terminator.

Thanks your advice really helped recover the component palette

Thanks for confirming, but where is Anders?    According to Borland,
we are imagining this problem.

He's right here. He can't possibly see every post.

He believes that what you reported is a known green haired
anomoly and has been reported as such.

Really? What did Borland say?

Have a great weekend,

I wasn't at the time. I can't possibly be aware of every single issue.

Plus, it wasn't an IDE docking bug we discussed originally (I think).
I got the impression it was a normal app with some docking stuff in
it, not the IDE.

Sorry.  I realise that but as you had asked for someone to post a
reproducible case, I assumed you would place a watch on the thread for
responses.  That's why I put a reply in that thread pointing to here.
The issue looked as if it was going to be swept under the carpet.

Good.  Thank you.

Nothing officially:   That's part of the problem.    People submit bug
reports and hear nothing further.   This was reported eight (8) months
ago yet not addressed in the update.   It is easily reproducible and
has been raised several times by others besides myself, yet the tone
of your posts and those of Stefan in the previous thread indicate you
are not aware of any IDE problem.

Anyway, l didn't intend this to tun into a rant.   It just seems that
the only way we can get anyone's attention is to do an H.S. or R.A.
impersonation.  How am I doing Roger?
