This is not exactly what you are looking for, but it is what I believe I
was thinking of: www.apcmag.com/apc/v3.nsf/dir/cd At least it
does list the issue at the top.
That page needs updating. The May 2005 issue of APC has been on the
newstands for almost a week now. You can see the cover page showing D2005
Personal at:

It's starting to come back to me now, it is the May 2005 issue of APC
that I read contains the DVD with D2005 Personal.

Good luck in your endeavor to find D2005 Personal.
If you still haven't managed to get a copy in a month or two and there are
back issues available you can order one online from:
magshop.com.au/Product.asp
They are up to March 2005 so far.
It makes a change for us 'Down Under' to be ahead of the game. It doesn't
seem that long ago when I regularly had to wait 3 months to get my copy of
Byte magazine via the slow boat to China.

I have one in walking distance. Was there on Saturday, but not a single
copy of PC Pro. I am in NJ, South NJ to be more exact.

Thanks for the info. I will have to bookmark that one. And the price is
not as bad as I had feared. With shipping it'll be about 11.50 USD. Of
course I don't know how long it'll take to get here...

Hmm, having had a look I think I will skip the Geek Rags (even if I miss
out on the PE) and get a copy of Ralph, see the cover on that?

Unfortunately I will have to skip that. There appear to be some
compatibility issues with Wife v1.0, and I am not ready to upgrade to
v2.0 yet.

Well then, is there anyway to find out what magazine(s) will be
including D2005 Personal in the future? Does Borland have this info and
if so are they willing/able to share it with us?

PC Pro (not PC Plus as before with Delphi 3)
Issue 128
Cover dated June 2005
*ONLY on DVD* edition (not CD edition).

Probably so hard to get noticed amid the din of Microsoft noise in the
press that you have to save a bone (exclusive) to throw to the dogs to
get a higher profile coverage.

All I know is that I personally hate having to fill out forms to be able
to use a trial version of any software.
Agrees.

However the ones I hate even
more are sites that you have to fill out a form to find out pricing.
On principle I refuse to use such software. To all software vendors out
there, I don't care if the software is the dog's bollocks, if you force me
to go to extreme lengths to get a demo then I simply will not use it.
Getting the D2005 Trial was just on the right side of irritating, with their
"Borland Download" Manager nonsense, mind you.
Best,
Dave

I guess that <shudder>more people might find out about it! More
people might /use/ it! ;-)
I suspect that the corporate types and marketoids at Borland are the same as
corporate types and marketoids at any other large company and hate the idea
of a wild mass of people using their software without having gathered silly
amounts of marketing data about said people.
Which just goes to show how far out of touch marketoids are, in general.
Delphi Personal should be given away free with every bottle of milk, for
feck's sake. People should be encouraged to make copies for their friends.
There is sufficient differences between the Personal and other versions that
sales of other versions wouldn't be affected, and Delphi, just like VB
before it, would achieve a critical mass of market penetration.

Probably. It is now the norm to date a magazine in the UK two months
after it actually goes on sale. Silly, I know, but that is the way it
is....
It used to be one month, so.. now it is two? Talk about inflation. I
remember PC Plus wishing Merry Christmas to the readers in the January
issue :)

Thanks for the info Allan and Peter.
I guess I will try the local bookstores again in the next few days and see
if they have it or are getting it. It might not hit the shelves until
later here in the US.

Hi Dave,

I have tried searching the websites of some of the magazines that I know
I can get ahold of. I will be d**ned if I can find any info on their
sites as to what is in the next issue let alone what if an CD or DVD may
be packaged with them.

>Can *you* figure out what issue this is?

Not from that link I can't. There is a link in this NG that does better
display what is included on the DVD though.

LOL. I didn't even want to go there. I did the drive/park/walk into
store/drive/park/walk into store etc. routine.

Thanks, that is some consolation...
You can get a copy of PC Pro in some local Barnes & Nobles in the US.
There are several stores in my area but only one carried a copy of PC
Pro (the one in Abington, PA). I bought the issue from April '05 and it
states that the May issue will contain the Delphi 2005 personal edition.
Unfortunately, it appears that only the CD version of the magazine is
carried in the US. My guess is that the Delphi personal will be
packaged on the DVD edition. However, in the magazine, it states that
the DVD can be purchased directly from the publisher in the UK for
something like 2.5 pounds if I remember correctly (probably costs an arm
and a leg to ship to the US).
I am wondering why no US magazines come with CD/DVD disks like several
of the UK publications that are sold for about $12.00 (what a deal!).
They come chock full of nifty freeware and shareware. One mag (PC
Freeware) came with a copy of 'No install Linux' (Knoppix) that runs off
of the CD which I intend to try out.
