That isn't what I have heard. US companies are heavily into 'long
distance' telecommuting - they call it 'outsourcing' ;)
That is subsiding a bit. In any case it is somewhat hilarious to see the very
same managers that want "to see butts in chairs" in order to know that people
are working will then outsource stuff to India. They won't trust their own
employees to telecommute, but they'll trust a bunch of people on the other side
of the globe that they've never seen. What a bunch of luminaries.

It must be somewhere close to where Borland has their office. Delphi is not
worth mutch without the developers behind it, and I assume few of the
developers would agree to move away from their current location. This means
that it must be a company that with office somewhere near Borland, else they
will have to buy/rent a new office +++

Tell me about it! We just got a new vice-chancellor for information
technology and he canceled a 2-year old telecommuting policy that was
working out beautifully. After 2 years of working from home, I am back in an
office (actually, a Dilbertville, cubicle hell, with old, broken furniture).
My end-users aren't too happy about the change since we were able to
document about a 30% increase in productivity working at home. Oh, and BTW,
the new VC's wife has been a successful telecommuter for 10 years.

That's SOOOOO typical. I don't know what group is more ridiculous and
hypocritical, politicians or businessmen. I think VC's and hedge fund managers
have edged out the politicians in this contest, though some politicians are
giving them a good challenge.

Interesting, but off-topic even though somewhat appropriate:
"Senior Master Sgt. Borland is a superintendent of computer systems and
is regularly assigned to the 455th Communications Flight, Ramstein Air
Base, Kaiserslautern, Germany."

that the U.S. is {*word*60}ed to oil, but if he really wanted to do something
about
it he would mandate that every company above a certain size have at least
some
percentage of their workers working at home.
If people in US started to work from home, using Internet instead, car and
oil industry will suffer tremendously. If it also has negative impact on
weapon industry, also they would be worried and could think about a plot in
order to increase weapon production, like offering car sellers bazookas to
be used against homes of people working at home, so they have to purchase a
brand new car in order to drive to their office, since home office got
destryoyed.
:-) (what a plot!!)

Never occurs to 'managers' that part of what they are doing by
outsourcing development is getting *themselves* out of the developers
hair so they can get on with the job. It would be interesting to take a
company, keep its development team in Boise Idaho and exile its
management to Bangalore - then see what the productivity impact is ;)

I'm very curious Ray. What reasons did he give for the change?

My son's favorite song for quite a while has been Rammstein's "Du Hast".
Doesn't really understand the lyrics, just enjoys the sound.

"Du Hast" oder "Du Hasst"?

Entweder/oder: was hast oder hasst er?
C'mon, Clay, I don't sprechen a word of Deutshce, and I am probably
misspelling it all to pieces too.
They had one "hit" here in the US a while back, IIRC, the English
translation is "You Hate Me", it is something like Du Hast Mich.

"Du haßt mich" means "You hate me". "Du hast mich" means "You have me".
Not entirely the same. ;-)

Good grief.. they sound the same. it is almost like Japanese.
I don't like languages where slight changes in pronounciation can be
embarrasing.. and yes, that probably includes English <g>
