Can you find out a 'fixed' limit, up from which the errors occur?

A TreeView can hold several thousand items, but perhaps the index can overflow.
Depending on your Delphi version, the index might be a 2 byte integer with a
maximum value of 32K (up to D2?) In D4 the integer data type has 4 bytes, but
perhaps some legacy code results in internal overflows in the TTreeView object,
when the count exceeds 32K items?
