Microsoft has put Outlook Express into
retirement. There won't be any new version of Outlook Express coming
out in the future.
Looks like a big boost for Jake's super newsreader.... Edora, Pegasus, etc.

This topic was covered over in the wasteland known as off-topic. To make a
long story short and save anyone the trouble of venturing into that
newsgroup, suffice it to say that I agree with your sentiment, at least one
person registered his complete indifference to JSN, and at least one other
ventured the opinion that it might not make much difference for third-party
newsreaders and email programs, since OE was still going to be
included with every Windows distribution (though in a stagnant state).

who read this newsgroup. Microsoft has put Outlook Express into
retirement. There won't be any new version of Outlook Express coming
out in the future. This was pretty much expected after the last
Internet Explorer announcement.

That sounds like a _really_ stupid MS decision, particularly to anyone with
a Hotmail account who knows how much spam goes though there.
My guess is that it is a bit like their decision to phase out Access in
favour of MSDE - they can announce it, but the market won't necessarily
follow their wishful thinking.
But they are still developing Outlook (just not express) so maybe they are
just trying to force customers onto paid Hotmail or paid Outlook.

But Outlook automatically sets up the Outlook Express Newsreader for
reading newsgroups. Has this been resolved?
