As opposed to your initial response I guess.

Just to create an artifical, academic point of comparison between old
and new palettes that shows the new palette in a more favourable
light, never-mind that you wouldn't ever actually use the old palette
in that utterly contrived configuration?
Well that is how I used it. I customise my toolbars extensively and
moved the palette from its default position. Just because you don't
doesn't mean others didn't.

I guess if that is you're game then yes, it was pretty "obviously".
Yeah, focus on the typo.

Thanks for spelling it out for me. Of course, it did NEED spelling
out since no-one would think to use the old palette in such a
ridiculous way, unless they were sitting desperately trying to
contrive ways of making the new palette look better than the old.
For me, the new palette is far and away more efficient to use than the
old. It also fully supports keyboard and mouse input. It saves me space.

Erm, yes. Really quite the opposite - my initial response quite simply
made the point that I didn't see what point you were trying to make.
Nothing patronising about that at all. (www.m-w.com)
But you clearly see no need to deviate from the increasingly prevalent
technique in this NG of portraying other peoples posts as something that
they were not, whilst carefully avoiding actually quoting the post so
characterised, presumably on the assumption that your complaint will be
taken at face value by casual readers.
I used to find it annoying, but now it is just tedious. Very, very
tedious.

Well, I guess there's no accounting for everybody, eh? Funny thing
though - the new palette is a continuing and recurring complaint from
new and old users alike.
You should pity us in our poor deluded state of mind, not patronise us.

Quite wrong - I also customised my palette and like many people
organised it to suit my way of working very well indeed. Something that
I've found impossible to do satisfactorily with the new palette. Again,
a failing that it seems is not peculiar to me alone.
I do not of course presume to think that everyone was capable of re-
organising their own (old) palette so effectively, and clearly for
reasons best known to themselves, some seemingly chose arrangements that
didn't actually work for them.
Unfortunately my specialism is software development, not head shrinkage,
so I simply cannot understand such people, which sadly I suppose means
that they and I are destined forever to disagree on even the most
trivial of matters.
Hey-ho.

"Focus"? I hardly think so. But if you wanted a completely sober,
respectful discussion you should have started out on that basis. If
you're going to take a patronising tone you should expect to be taken
down every peg that you make available. Bog knows it is something I've
become accustomed to, so I try as far as possible to not let typos
through.
Sow as ye shall reap and all that.
If I am taking the time to post, I take the time to post as eruditely and
accurately as possible. it is only respectful you know.

I bet you think the IDE is faster and more stable too and that the help
system really has improved over D7.
Goes to credibility of the witness m'lud.
;)
Finally, I hope you read this far - I strongly suspect that if we were
having this discussion over a pint we would both be grinning like fools
and enjoying a bit of self mockery as part of our exchange of views that
we both inwardly recognise as valid yet equally acknowledge as personal
and not something that we would ever genuinely hope to persuade a
disagreeing party to come around to.
Sadly such japery all too often get's lost in the transmission of
thought to byte, and pitifully irrelevant subjects of disagreement
become intellectual territory to be defended at all costs.
Whoever invents the first proper online "pub" where such over-a-pint
debates can be conducted in the time honoured, and sadly fading,
tradition is going to make a fortune.

So does putting words in other people's mouths.

True and we'd both come away thinking we'd won ;-)
Although deep down you'd know I did <g>
Perhaps the question should be added to the annual survey.

Hey, we both use Delphi right? We ARE both winners!

However, I still had the component
palette taking up two rows all by itself (about 3-4 lines of valuable code
editor space).
What I do is to resize the main window of Delphi to make it shorter
horizontally (component palette effectively hidden; part of the menu
hidden too) and rearrange other toolbars to make it rather compact.
Then, I can resize my code editor taller to get a few lines of coding
space more.
