MAPI and Outlook

Hi,

Disclaimer: I am not writing a virus or doing anything morally or
legally wrong.

We have developed a system for a customer that sits on the client PCs
and sends email s back to the customer via the lan/internet/whatever.
These emails are generated automatically using MAPI.  Since the customer
has applied some security patches to Outlook, every time our apps try to
send an email, Outlook displays a warning about another app sending
email on the users behalf, and recommends they cancel it, and our
customer wants to this prompt not to be displayed.

I can see two options...

1) Disable the Outlook functionality some how

2) Replace the MAPI stuff with SMPT, IMAP and whatever else using Indy.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Phil

I don't believe that's possible. You would switch off the security functions
in Outlook introduced with the Service Packs...

As soon as you have the customers mail server address (data security?) you
can do everything by Indy's SMTP-Client. But you might also use a
smtp-server of your owns.

Making a HTTP-POST to a script on your webserver. The program at your
customer has to check only the server. Is a bit more work but it will
function everywhere as long as your server is online...

Helge.

I was hoping that Outlook had some sort of 'Trusted Applications' list,
but it does not look like it.

This will work, but for a number of reasons it is the last resort.  The
main reason is that half of the 'client' apps are on off-site workers
laptops and they use their own dial-up connections to send the main via
their own ISP and that is SMPT for some, IMAP for others etc.  If I go
this method, I shall probably set up a single account and hard code the
settings.

Thats the problem with this method.  The off-site applications are on-
line once or twice a day for a few minutes, which is why using Mapi is
so appealing.

I never thought I would ever wish that MS apps we less secure <g>

Re:MAPI and Outlook

If I understand correctly then they use Extended Mapi instead of Simple
Mapi. Hmm, I will need to investigate this :-)
