pascal lang. is fading away

yes it is true... my high school used to teach Pascal as a grade 12
computer science course (which involved making a game at the end of
the course!)

but now, they teach Java, and HTML (which is not a prog. lang.)

I am a computer science hopefull... I love to program and create DOS
games, only problem i getting old compilers are a {*word*75}...

I have the money to buy it, but who the {*word*30} sells it in Canada?

in other words, Pascal and other programming languages like Fortran,
Cobal etc. are slowly becoming rarer and rarer!

no one that I know of is programming in that language...

why? NO {*word*30}ING COMPILER!!!! people are lazy, they are not going to
spend lots of time trying to use the command-line {*word*99} or the freeware
version of pascal that crashes when in compile state...

hey, if you want people to remember Pascal, then give the {*word*30}ing
compiler away for free, no one makes commercial programs for it
anymore and Borland has nothing to lose other than to gain more fan
base....

so to do my part, if any one wants the Borland Pascal 7.0 compiler,
gimme an e-mail and I will send you the zip file (which is quite
small)...

Which of course makes it pretty close to the end of pascal in the world :_)

Then use new ones?

Use a free one then.

Pascal isn't, since there is actually still new development, specially on
the Delphi side.

Maybe somebody going in  the CS direction should be able to handle
command-line "{*word*99}". And why is something {*word*99} because *you* can't handle it?

It is what I think, then it is not free ware, but free software. There is a
difference.

If you have a problem with Free Software, the solution is simple: *Fix* it,
and submit your patches.

Why? Borland is commercial, and has nothing to gain by releasing 7.0, even
to loose:

A fan base that doesn't bring in any money, while, when annoyed enough, some
part of the former TP base might still crossover to Delphi, which *will*
make dollars for Borland.

So I don't expect to see it released for free anyday soon.

Are you asking to be forwarded to pir...@borland.com?

I guess we should all just pack it in, eh?

Getting TP 5.5 is easy. Getting the French version of TP 7.01 is easy.
In Canada, the fact that the help files are in French may not even be
a problem.

I'm told it's regularly available on Ebay, too.

I wonder what .zip file this could be. Possibly it's one of the compilers
on its own without the units, etc. Not really helpful I would have
thought.
The full version of BP 7.0 is fairly big for email.

Looks that way to me.

Pascal is still taught in schools and universities here in
Australia
So it is still a viable language

Never heard of Cobal, but COBOL is still used in large
industries and
government departments ( also taught at Unis)

This newsgroup is here for the active users of Pascal (and
there are many
of them).  Instead of complaining why not try communicating
through the
group with the many other Pascal users, exchange ideas, ask
questions,
help others and make this newsgroup a live dynamic place for
interchange

By your language I would say you are pretty angry  -  why
not take a Stress
Management course, try meditation, chew a Valium  -  it
might help
moderate your language
