Hi All,
I Have Delphi 7 but cannot download the 7.1 update.
How do I become a "D7 Delphi Developer" so that I can log in and download it?
Thanks

Did you register your copy of Delphi 7 with Borland when you bought it? Do
you have a BDN Account?

Re:Problems downloading Delphi 7.1 update

Hi,
My manager says that it was registered.
Also, I do have a BDN Login, but it was one that I created myself.
How do I register what product I have, as there was no option to give my
product key.
Thanks

Re:Problems downloading Delphi 7.1 update

Hi, I get that.
But how do I register the product if my boss did not do it already?
He says he has, but he does not have any user names or passwords...
I know, it sounds funny, but he is a bit absent minded some times.
Thanks

To get to the downloads, you have to be logged in to BDN with the
account that was used to register the product. That should make sense
-- if it weren't that way, then non-Delphi Developers could get the
updates.

Jason,
I suggest calling the Borland Customer Service department.

If the splash screen doesn't say "unregistered" when it starts up, it
is registered.
If you can not remember the information, then look in the software
package. There's probably a card in with it that has all the
registration information. Have your boss call Borland Customer Service
with that information, and they can get it all squared away, though
they might require some paperwork, etc.

It is good thing that this complicated registration stuff keeps Delphi
from being cracked. No company would put their paying customers through
so much pain if the bad guys could just startup bitorrent or emule and
download Delphi including service packs without all the registration
and phone home stuff that comes the version I payed for.
Reduced sarcasm mode:
Why not make the service pack downloads available publicly so your
paying customers too can easily get it. Just check if the Delphi
version is registered when running the service pack. That would be much
more convenient for your paying customers while not helping the bad
guys more that you do now.

At least the service packs no longer require the serial number and reg
key. We still use Delphi 6 daily, and once in a while I will have to rebuild a D6
environment.
There are four updates, each of which requires the serial number and reg
key. The worse part is, the numbers are stored in the registry under
HKLM\Software\Borland\Delphi\6.0, keys LMLIC and LMKEY. This is where I
always go to get them post-install.
Also, thank goodness the BDS2006 installer let's you copy and paste an
entire key instead of having five edit boxes for the serial number.
At least they are improving/learning...

I'm far less than happy with the status quo.

I think that is a great idea.

This attitude is for real, alright. Why do you think many of us were so
e{*word*277}d to hear of Nick's appointment as Delphi Product Manager?
I predict Nick will be the best thing to hit Delphi since... well,
since Delphi!

Don't be skeptical in non-tech please. Everything written in here is
for real.

Thanks for an honest response about the current situation. Hopefully,
DevCo will make things easier for their paying customers.
It could be a nice DevCo costs saver too, considering that those
support people answering product activation and reactivation questions
do not work for free either.

I think that is a great idea.
Only if DevCo releases a fairly cheap version. Otherwise, you might just
kill the OpenSource efforts.
