ORA-01041 Hostdef extension not found

Has anyone seen this before.  I have a client running Oracle 8.0.5 on
Open VMS that cannot install my software because he constantly gets
this message.

I have found a few hits on Oracle and the WEB in general that take
about this but don't come with a solution.   I've contacted Oracle and
well, Oracle support leaves much to be desired.

ORA-01041 Hostdef extension not found

Any more info would be very helpful.

Steve

Hi Stephen,

a description of mine from february 2000 in this newsgroup:

Gabriel,

first you have to install the Oracle 8 client software on your client
maschine (I'm sure you know that). Then you have to create / modify your
TNSNames file using the Net8Assistant (Start/Programs/Oracle 8.../Network
Administration/Net8Assistant). In this tool you have to add entries for your
Host (Server) and for your Oracle instance on that host. Then use the Test
button to check the connection (use internal/oracle as user/pw, not
scott/tiger).

Best Regards
Robbi

Thanks Robbi,  I'll get them to try it.
