Problem with default field values

I have a MySQL database. I have a number of tables that contains NOT NULL
fields that have DEFAULT values. In BDE world I can set the AUTOREFRESH
property to true, insert a new record, post it, and all the fields with
default values will be populated with these values.

dbExpress doesn't seem to be able to do this?
Am I correct in saying this?
If so, what do we do about it?
