Same happened to me with XML Spy. I ordered it and week later there was a
new version.
No option to return or get free upgrade. I will never buy anything else from
Altova...

not quite what you expected, you can receive a full refund. This is
providing that you contact us and let us know before 60 days after the

I quote from Borland NZ's return policy:

:The Borland New Zealand store by Digital River does not allow for
returns or refunds on purchased products."
Wow, that would be illegal over here, but it would have to be
unsuitable. You dont by right have the chance to change your mind. But
not being told of an imminant upgrade you would then be expect to pay
for might have worked.

My sympathies but under which rock have you been hiding? First, you pick
D2005, the second most infamous Delphi version, to upgrade from D5, and
then
you time it to just before the highly publicised release of D2006? <g>
Call me stupid, but I went to the Borland site to see what the current
available version available was.
I also didn't expect Borland NZ to forget to mention there was another
version in the wings, and it might pay for me to wait. They have gained
nothing by playing this stupid game, particulalrly in that I will never buy
another byte of software from them again.

Ross, I would suggest giving them a call.

I guess what burns me up even more is that the cretins didn't respond to my
emails either...

I emailed them - they ignored me. Also, their returns policy is pretty
clear:
"just try and get'em"

Hmmm the first being D4? or D8?
I'd definitely say D8. D4 eventually became usable.

I have mixed feelings about SA. It kinda forces Borland to bring an
update every
year whether it is ready or not.

In which case I would *really* recommend calling them. Seriously.
I believe Borland regional sales outlets tend to be much more reasonable and
responsive with face-to-face (or voice-to-ear) dialogs than with their web
or email correspondence. I guess it is a bit of "underpromise and
overdeliver". But I would certainly ring them, state - gently - the reasons for
your displeasure (including that they don't reply to emails), and ask them
what they're going to do about it. Oh - and make sure you get the *name* of
whoever you speak to!

Re: Upgrade to D2006 - here's what happens down under

Thats the end result isn't it, even if you like the product you end up with
such a bad attitude to the company you will buy something that wouldn't
otherwise be your first choice just to spite them.
As someone else said, it seems that when a company is (or believes it is) a
market-leader, individual customer loyalty stops being a concern.

Ouch! While I do understand some of the posts here that say you should
have done more research, I don't really see that as your
responsibility. It should be an automatic free upgrade if you purchase
a product in the last 60 days before a new release, IMHO. That is just
good business.

Did you call them 'cretins' in those emails? I find that I am usually
disinclined to answer messages of that sort.
