Unfortunately, I use it to access DBF files from another application which was written in Visual
FoxPro. It looks like I may not be able to migrate my apps to BDS2006 or make new apps to interface
with that legacy system.

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

Matthew,
I use Apollo all the time with Delphi 5 and 7.
Anthony Carrabino has been promising for over a year, possibly nearer two to
release a new build (I think the final), but nothing has ever come to
fruition. Usually the excuse is some push to get a new build of VistaDB out.
I emailed him personally a couple of weeks ago, asking about the upgrade,
but he has never answered on that subject.
He is available on Skype, get the details somewhere on www.vistadb.com.
Maybe if enough people badger him personally over the phone, things may
happen. I'd hold my breath.
He even suspended the newsgroup where there was great peer support.

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

Matthew,
If you have the source, you should be able to compile for D7+
We dropped the use of Apollo for everything except DBF-Desktop.
If you require DBF/CDX support, then the recompile option would be the best.
Do not expect ANY support from Vista concerning Apollo. Like kicking a
dead horse that has already been buried, hence my extremely dirty shoes ;)
If you do not require DBF, I'd stronly suggest other options such as
DBISAM (We use internally)
NexusDB (Good reviews from many)
There are also several other options available.
Regards,
Scott.

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

Scott,
As I do not have D7, I was going to go Delphi 2006 - might as well be
current. Do you know if Apollo could be recompiled to work with 2006?
Currently, I still need DBF/CDX support.
Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

Matthew,
I have not been brave enough to make the move to D2006 ;p, so I cannot answer this for sure,
but I do not see a real problem. Have you tried to re-compile, etc?
I am sure someone has installed it into D2006.
From the NG's:
Hi Ron,
I can not speak to Apollo 6.2, status unknown for now.
But I can say that Apollo 6.11 vcl was easily modified and
works with Delphi 2005. I'd expect the same results
with the vcl side of Delphi 2006 but won't know for sure
until D2006 is released.

Why not use ADO?

We switched from Apollo back at D5 and use it all the time with NO problems.

Thanks, I will give it a try.
I liked Apollo it because it took no significant client configuration.

I have not upgraded since D6. I am waiting to find out if Apollo will work.
What is "easily modified"? Has anyone done this? What newsgroup did Dan
Ranbow's comment appear?

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

You will love this.. it was the Apollo NG (now dead):
216.101.185.148/scripts/isapi.dll/article
www.fulltextsearch.com/search.htm
search for 'Apollo Delphi 2006' or 'Apollo D2006'
Perhaps someone else can help with this.

If you have to stick with DBF, you could try: www.codebase.com/
I once used this and it worked quite well.

Re: Anyone using Apollo anymore?

Hi All,
I still use it and have it installed on D2005 and everything works ok, I
installed it on D2006 everything works but it will not display memos
(blobs), I think it has something to do with changes to wide strings in
D2006 but cannot find the problem. It is an Apollo problem as advantage
works and Halcyon6 works with the same code.
I just read on VistaDB support forum that VistaDB 3.0 will be .NET only
and VistaDB VCL edition will be discontinued. It looks like they are
dropping all win32 support.
There has been a few Appolo questions on their forum but they get
deleted before they get answered.
I think they should sell or give Apollo to someone who cares about their
customers.

If you need DBF/CDX support, you can use free Advantage Local Server Engine:
www.advantagedatabase.com/web/content.aspx
There is TDataSet Descendant for delphi 7 and ADAC
(Advantage Data Access Components) for Delphi 8 and up!

As I remember, the FoxPro uses the own mechanism for record locking which is
not compartible with ADO.
So your program and Foxpro's app will not work in same time as I understand.
