Invoking Live Templates with "("

Is it possible to invoke live templates when pressing anything other
than Space or Tab? Is there perhaps another setting other than "auto"
that will allow them to be invoked when typing the keyword and then
pressing "(" straight after that without spaces in between? I would like to
be able to expand certain function calls with "auto"-type templates.
Thanks,
Kevin.

Re:Invoking Live Templates with "("

Hi
Not by default, no. You'd have to write an IDE plugin. I wanted this too
:-)

Perhaps in Delphi 2006 Update 2? ;-)

New features very, very rarely appear in updates, and with the new
restrictions enforced by Sarbanes-Oxley, we will be carefully reviewing
feature creep for updates. Updates are for bug fixes, not new features.

What about adjusted features that is been adjusted to something a lot worse
than in earlier versions? Could they be adjusted back in an update?
See QC 23807 (Remote debugging in D2006 versus D7).

Interesting... what restrictions does SOx place on software updates?
Just curious...

I know. Hence the wink. Actually I pretty much knew that the answer
was NO, I was just indicating how much I wanted the feature. :-)
Cheers,
Kevin.

Regression bugs or missing features or features that aren't working are
candidates. Not new features.

It impacts revenue recognition and when you can recognize the revenue.
I definitely do not know the intricacies because I absolutely do not
want to, but it boils down to legal and finance telling us "Don't do
that or it will cause major pain for our public reporting."
So we're not going to do it.
However, we can still do public betas, extreme toys, etc. that are NOT
officially part of the product, and you can expect to see some of those
soon.

How about extremely public betas?

Be careful what you ask for ;)
Very, very careful.

Very, very careful.
Smiley noted.
Serious note - I would like to see more "pre-release" software from Borland.
Call it an expanded beta, public beta, whatever. For example, whatever's
cooking for Highlander, if it could be downloaded by Delphi Developers of
Delphi, or even better, Software Assurance customers, and used without
support, that'd be great.
What I don't want to see is BDS going into BDN's permanent beta mode. I
do want a firm, fixed platform with official service packs. A known
baseline that I can version off from if I need to. Give me more frequent
hot fixes, published workarounds, betas, unsupported features. But don't
remove the supported baseline versions.
Just felt it needed to be said.

IMO, every single website in the world that is growing and offering new
services is permanently in beta, including Google et al. There's just
varying degrees of functionality, performance, and reliability.
If it will make you more comfortable, I can remove "beta" from all the
BDN apps and just use version numbers.

No, because then I will expect the BDN Support Department to be monitoring
the BDN apps 24x7. And knowing the BDN Support Department consists of,
well, DevRel and whoever you can hogwash into working on BDN, that means
less time for other, more important things. ;-)

They are monitored 24x7. Some of them aren't monitored as well as
others, and most of the time the errors on the apps have nothing to do
with the apps themselves, but are hardware and network related, which
is also supposed to be monitored 24x7.
