This is Win98, I did no special install.  "Component Checker" shows
version 2.1.3711.11 on machine with out Delphi, and 2.1.2.4202 on
machine with Delphi.

Yep, I was dissapointed, had to set up and use remote de{*word*81} to find
statement causing message (ExecSql)

I would try installing MDAC 2.1 the PC. MDAC does not come with Win98 so
whatever is there was installed by some other app. Some apps (Internet
Explorer for one) seem to do partial installs of MDAC in some cases.
