Multi-Threading vs Multi-Instances

Hello,
what leads to more performance:
one app which creates several threads or running several instances of the app ?

The app is for converting many textfiles in a loop. It looks - very basically - like this:
while true
begin
  read file
  convert
  write newFile
  delete file
end

Re:Multi-Threading vs Multi-Instances

Klaus,

this seems like a typical case of "answer by test"... just create a simple
prototype of both concepts and see which performs better. It depends of
course e.g. on how many parallel threads you are thinking of. In general I
have been told that
windows apps performance goes way down beyond ~15 parallel threads per app.
I have some experience with multi-process work and have found such apps to
perform admirably...
