text files, Excel - how to set field datatype?

If the column looks like

1234
ABC
2345

then in ADODataSet I have an ftInteger column:

1234
<NULL>
2345

The only way to fix it is to add some non-digit symbol, for example
apostrophe:

'1234
ABC
'2345

Any suggestions how I can have ftString column without changing data?
