PRINTING: Shortening the queue time

With ReportSmith, if I print a 500 page report, it queues the entire
document before it starts printing.  Will another tool, such as Quick
Reports, not exhibit this behavior?

Ideally, once the report is generated (for example, while in a
preview), and the user selects Print, output should be generated
immediately - regardless of report size.

This feature is not a RS behavur. It a windows "problem". If you use
Win 3.1x disable the printmanager, then the printer should start
immediatly. I think the problem occours under W95, but if it does, I
don't know how to go around it.

When accesing a network-printer, there is no way to come around
spooling the entire file, as far as I know.

I'm using Personal NetWare, and I have an options named "Direct
print". It starts printing immediatly, but while printing "directly"
nobody else can send jobs to the printer.

Re:PRINTING: Shortening the queue time

Are you sure it's Windows that is spooling the file and not your network?
Most network print servers will spool the print job until it is complete
before starting to print.
