Connecting client to MS-SQL Sever 6.5 via BDE

I installed the sql-server client on a Win95 machine.
I can work with ISQL/w on client and access the server db's without any
problems (via pipes).

However, when I go to setup the alias in the bde and connect I get
'Cannot locate or connect to SQL server. Unable to connect: SQL server
is unavailable or does not exist. General network error.  Check you
documentation. Alias ....'

I should only have to set the Server Name and Database under an MSSQL
alias right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install the SQL Server driver when you installed SQL Links after the
BDE?

You may need to use another protocol such as TCP/IP between computers in
addition to Named Pipes for SQL Links to see the server.

Is the SQL Server service started?
