I had siw months ago the problem to connect to Oracle 804 with BDE 501 in
native (faster) way.
The solution was to use an Oracle provided DLL : "ORA804.DLL" to set in the
BDE configuration.
It is not listed in the drop-down box because it is newer, you have to type
the name (and even make the path available if it isn't)
It was found somewhere in the files Oracle Installer copied to the clients.

Good luck. Let me know if it helps.

Re:D2, BDE 4.51 Oracle 8.0.5

hello,

recently i try connected Delphi 4 to Personal Oracle 8.03, however, i keep
getting problems all the time....
BDE turns corrupted.... oracle drivers didnt work under BDE........ a lot
of problems. to solve your problem in the best way you can download ODA
(Oracle Data Access) in http://www.itprise.kiev.ua/oda.htm
its a third part solution better than BDE and of course much better than
the {*word*193} ODBC! its a trial version of components that allow you to connect
to Oracle in a easy way. its works 100% good.

However, if you still want to use ODBC, you must do the following :

  1. install Oracle drivers for ODBC
  2. go to 32bits ODBC (Control Panel ) and add that drivers.
in Data Source Name : just a name to reconize in BDE
in SQL *Net ....  : the alias in oracle (oracle.world)
  3. go to BDE
create a new database and choose the ODBC driver
then in ODBC DSN put the name of your Data Source Name(you give it in
the ODBC)

and voil
