c/s database recommendations

Hi,
Given a 10+ simultaneous user app. with 30-40 tables,  which c/s server D/B
would you recommend?
They must have transactions, integrate easily into Delphi and be easy to
maintain and little (no) downtime(no db admin person on site).

We have considered:

Codebase (How does this fair as C/S? and is it easy to use from Delphi)
Advantage
Apollo
FlashFiler (is this really suitable for a large app.? sql support?)

Each has good points but it is hard to find any comparisons between them.

Any help is appreciated

Joe.

Re:c/s database recommendations

Hi Joe,

The initial release of Vista Software's Apollo Client/Server 5.0 (due out
next month) will not yet include the transaction processing support.  That
will be rolled into a free maintenance update (5.1?) a couple months after
the initial release.  So, to be quite honest, if your requirement for
transaction processing is immediate, we may not be right for you at this
time.  However, in all of your other requirements, and also in price, I
believe that Apollo Client/Server is a strong contender.

If you do place your order Apollo Client/Server now, we would set you up for
download access to the beta section immediately so you could get started
with it now.

For more information on Apollo Client/Server, please visit the Vista
Software web site at www.VistaSoftware.com.

Interbase should cover all that. And after it became an Open Source
product this week, I think it should be very good alternative to think
about.

Re:c/s database recommendations

I have over 10 years experience with about 10 different DBMS .
No one of them can be even comapared to Btrieve ( now Pervasive and the real
name of
the product  they currently ship is Pervasive.SQL 2000 ).
Btrieve/Pervasive DBS is the most robust solution in embaded databases
area for PC platform I have ever seen. Now product is also accesible for
Linux ,
Mac and Solaris (I could be wrong with this). They ( Pervasive ) do not pay
me for that kind
of activity on user's group. I just pay them back for giving me an excellent
product.
I did not find any system which can be a real competitor for Paervasive when
it comes
to transactional processing. Just four words: reliability,  stability, high
performance.
Beside that :
- fully SQL support (if you need it, but also you can use much faster
"natve" access )
- excellent documentation
- excellent set of Delphi components ( my favorite: Titan from Regatta )
Product has reasonable price ( about 100$ per licence for one user ).
Obviously is not cheap, but
be honest and aswer the question: have you ever seen any product (lika a
car) which is excellent and
cheap ?

Forget about FlashFiler if you really want to go without problems ( Paradox
works better ).
I do not know anything about Apollo and Advanced DS (just read the ads), but
both products seem
to be not as mature as Pervasive.  There is about 15 years of successfully
history behind Pervasive.
Check their web site : www.pervaisve.com

Good luck.
Marek.
