C++ Builder Pro 3 will not set up on Windows XP Pro. File struture errors preventing creation of shared and common file folders and paths.
Any work arounds or fixes? Just got home from military deployment and have not programmed in 4 years. Would love to get back into putting together my own data bases. Can't afford to skip right on down to Best Buy and spend 600 bux on new software.
Thanks!

Re:Installing C++ Builder Pro 3 on Windows XP Pro

Jeff,
What errors are you getting?
Although it hasn't been formally tested against Windows XP, I wouldn't
expect C++Builder 3 to have any serious issues with the Windows XP directory
structure. The error messages might shed some light on what's going on.

Re:Installing C++ Builder Pro 3 on Windows XP Pro

An information dialog box pops up with "Unable To Create Program Folder".
I minimized the install and check my root\program directory and did not find folders BDE,Borland Shared, and CBuilder3.
I did a clean up of all temp files and orphans. Checked my
registry for any entries. Rebooted just to make sure my dump
file and registry trace are clean.
I started another install. I did notice the Installshield
Express button was not linked. Also the Interbase 5 install
button was not linked.
The install button for BCB works however. Once it got to the
setup options I chose "Custom". From there I manually
entered the path for all five components to setup.
This time around setup reported the "Unable To Create"
pop up but each directory was successfully installed.
Setup did not create a desktop short cut or a start menu
item. But that's no big deal to create.
I have not had time yet to throw a quick test prog together
to test the compiler and de{*word*81}, but I will, and I'll post
the results and any findings and work arounds someone else
may find handy.
I'll get back to you shortly.
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
Are you installing under a restricted user account? Also, which directories
are you installing into?
