1 Year Support & Maintenance2005-11-24 08:28:29 PM cppbuilder114 I plan to upgrade from version 6 to C++Builder 2006 Professional. What do I get when I subscribe to the 1 year support and maintenance agreement??. I assume that patches are free. If the next upgrade is 13 months, then it will not be covered by the agreement. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks, Don Bell |

pricing. If that is your intention then I suggest you not get SA. SA is about a new way of planning your expenses every year and to have support maintenance available. Over the long haul you are saving money, but if you look at it only yearly then it is possible for it to not gain you anything. -- Jeff Overcash (TeamB) (Please do not email me directly unless asked. Re:1 Year Support & Maintenance
If you look at the past, does this really add up to a savings? Say you purchased
BCB5 and paid maintenance every year. Borland isn't so quick on updates. I am a long time Borland supporter since Turbo C and even bought Builder X hoping for something great. The ONLY reason I am even considering BB2006 is because MS's VS seems to assume you will want to do most things with the framework instead of native code. So all of the RAD stuff is all NET based with no mechanism that I can see to compile to native code. Jeff Overcash (TeamB) wrote: Quote

you used all 3 as the SA itself (Pro SA), BCB has to average 1 update every 18 months. BCB6 to BCB 2006 is abnormal due to the CBX side track. There are already two announced updates on the roadmap for the next 2 years. There are several reasons for getting on and staying on SA, cheaper upgrades is only one of them. -- Jeff Overcash (TeamB) (Please do not email me directly unless asked.
