Strange days for C++...2006-09-20 09:23:45 PM cppbuilder7 I think that we face a strange situation in our industry, epsecially regarding to C++. I have a 5 years experience in .net and C# and a have used C++ a little in the past. Now, i really want to "mess" with C++ again but i see no viable solution except that new Turbo C++ (which i already use and love it!) And this to come true, some very strong buyer have come on this and play (like Google perhaps ?) C++ on Windows platform is already in an "unstable" place and "thanks" to Microsoft, not a very viable solution. MFC, ATL not beeing enhanced any more (exclude the fact that these were never good), .net is all over the place, C++/CLI is a joke to me (if someone has to programm in .net, C# is a far better approach) and Windows API seems to be fading in the coming years (for example, in Vista, some API will be only managed). MS is pushing managed code very hard and in C# favor. I am not sure if we needed all this stuff (.net goodies, GC and all these). .net has surely some good things on it but as time passes, i see that the only thing developers were/are needing is the power of C++ with a framework like the VCL. Nothing more and nothing less. I just wait to see who will buy the IDEs and if C++ Builder (or Turbo) will really has a future after that. As i see things, this the ONLY thing that is left for us to use C++ and NOT beeing locked-in in MS strategies... |
