Unable to start Kylix (Delphi) Suse 9.2 startdelphi does not bring up IDE

kylix2
I've just 'upgraded' from 9.0 to 9.2. I may have to go back!
I am now unable to run Kylix3 (Delphi). The mouse shows busy for a little
while & then goes dead.
Suse do not want to help. They say it is not covered by their installation
support, but it is on the 'Kylix Website' no url!
The only possible clue I've go is
crosskylix.untergrund.net/execshield.shtml which report a problem
with applications.
Fix for Kylix-built applications crashing under Linux 2.6.8 Kernels with
Exec-Shield enabled
Various Keyword searches have got me nowhere! Can anyone help please?

Re:Unable to start Kylix (Delphi) Suse 9.2 startdelphi does not bring up IDE

I found an answer in Kylix on Suse 9, above.
As described there I added:
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.0
just before the line that starts
source
I did this on both startdelphi & startbcb.

This may work for you. Before you run Kylix, do this from a root terminal
window:
echo 1>/proc/sys/vm/legacy_va_layout
Then try launching Kylix in your normal way.
